a not very Vegan post

For my sister Sommer's birthday I decided to make her something we've always joked about, but never attempted, the rare and coveted Bacon Explosion.

To create one of these beast you need, 2 lbs of bacon, 2lbs of ground pork and an entire bottle of BBQ sauce.
  1. Season your pork, I asked my mom what I should put in this, she suggested 1 egg, some bread crumbs, greek seasoning, black pepper and salt.
  2. Cook 5 pieces of bacon to be used as crumbly crispy bits on the inside of the loaf
  3. Spread out the ground pork and add the cooked bacon and some of the BBQ sauce, then form it into the loaf shape
  4. WEAVE YOUR BACON. make a beautiful bacon blanket to gingerly wrap around your pork loaf
  5. Place bacon blanket on top of loaf (this was really hard for me because my blanket kept falling apart) then add lots of BBQ sauce
  6. Bake until middle of loaf reaches 160 degrees
Obviously I didn't try it, but it was a big hit at the party! We served it with canned quail eggs, and I thought it was weird that people would rather eat this 5,000 calorie monster than the cutest hard boiled eggs in the world.

HAUL

So the first thing isn't even from a thrift store or yard sale, I was helping my mom clean her garage today and she gave me this beautiful Mexican casserole...clay....bowl...thing.  I don't really know what to do with it because I'm pretty sure I can't cook anything in it, I guess I can use it as a very large tortilla warmer.
From yard sales I got:
  • a beautiful crystal looking bowl from a yard sale (5 dollars),
  • 5 large keys to hang on my walls (3 dollars for set),
  • this creepy Creepy CREEPY pin of a fancy lady in fur (I think this is real fur and it makes it even more creepy)
  • and....THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LAMP IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the best part? IT WAS FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
from thrift stores I got:
  • these 70's style floral tins (50 cents)
  • new gray purse (2$)
  • the necklace I was wearing in my Sac Pride post (7$)
  • a new tank for my turtle, (15$) It's shaped like a square and I don't know how many gallons it is, he lives in a 10 gallon right now because he's only the size of a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup (I used this for comparison because boyfriend left his wrappers on the table)
I also bought this really great old KSX Super 35mm camera for 40$. I would probably never normally pay 40$ for ANYTHING but I bought it because my brother-in-law was going to sell it at his yard sale and it was his dad's before he died and I knew he didn't want to sell it to a stranger.
but I have a confession, I am not a camera junkie,
I know A LOT of bloggers are camera masters but I don't know anything about them, I've never had a nice camera before, I've never even used one that takes film. I'm hoping I can learn how to operate this without feeling like a complete failure. I want to be able to pull out my camera and take a picture of something that needs to be documented, and be excited to get the film developed because I can't even remember all the photos I took :)

ChickaBOOM

Busy week, saying goodbye to one of my best friends at work, yard sailing, thrift storing and crocheting. No, I'm still not done with my afghan :)

i have an octopus addiction
this is definitely the best owl I've made
i feel bad for how ugly this one is

it's a lot funner to make critters and do my nails than work on a blanket that I will probably never finish.
Tomorrow I'll do a thrift store/yard sale haul post

Gay Day in the Good Way

Saturday was Sacramento Gay Pride, the drive was an hour and a half but my twin sister and I took a long time getting there because we like to go on adventures on our way to adventures.

I tried a Starbucks coffee for the first time in like 5 years! I had no idea they had so many vegan options, I give it an A+
my two friends and my twin sister Tory at our booth

It was raining, but that didn't stop people from walking around half naked! This was my first big city Pride and I didn't really know what to expect but I had a lot of fun. I like how even though we were all strangers, we were connected just through the support of each others right to live the way we want. I liked how you could make eye contact with someone and it wasn't awkward or make you self-conscious because you know that they didn't judge you, everyone was so nice.
I bought my shirt at this lovely website. You could write whatever you wanted in the blank rectangle with permanent marker :3
my shirt, "I appreciate lesbians who look like Justin Bieber"

Long Day

Last night I went to the midnight showing of X-men First Class. To put it simply, I LOVED IT. I loved James Mcavoy, I loved Magneto, I loved Mystique. I love X-men. I think I've been to every midnight showing of every X-men film so far.
Since I got home at 2:30 in the morning, I got to sleep for 2 hours and 45 minutes before waking up for work. It was terrible, I looked like poop all day and even ditched work early because I was way too tired to fold towels and make gift buckets all day.
BUT I wasn't too tired to go shopping with my twin sister for Sacramento Pride tomorrow. We volunteer/are members of  the Youth Stonewall Alliance Center.
We have a group of about 10 gay, bi, lesbian, transgendered and two-spirited twenty-somethings and I love going to the meetings, we'll have a booth at Sac Pride so I tried out a face mask to not look so poopy tomorrow!
It's one of those cheap ones they sell in individual packets, mine was Red Ginseng Vitamin E. It smelt like parsley and I don't know if it did anything but my skin feels softer.

Hope tomorrow is going to be amazing!

Procrastination

You know when you're supposed to be doing something, something that someone asked you to do for them, and when you remember you were supposed to have that done you get a sinking feeling in your gut because you know you're a failure?

I was supposed to have this afghan done exactly 39 days ago.
One day this mess will be a beautiful blanket... but not today because I have plans.

Dear Blog,

We don't know each other very well, and I want to change that. Let me tell you a little about myself, I live in a small town in northern California with my boyfriend James. We share a very cramped and horribly decorated apartment. I am addicted to thrift store shopping and yard sailing. I used to be a blog lurker, following peoples blogs without commenting for a loooong time. But I want that to change.
Even though we just met, I feel like we're going to be great friends.
xoxo,
Quinn
